Photography"White Out,” is a project centered around designing a surreal movie poster to promote the Chicago Underground Film Festival, inspired by the festival's theme, "White Out." The poster was required to be photographic and include at least 8 objects in its design. The approach to the project involved drawing inspiration from the theme and brainstorming ways to incorporate it creatively. The decision was made to base the poster on the story of "Snow White," utilizing the imagery of snow and the magic mirror to convey the duality of beauty and evil.
The execution involved crafting a surrealistic film festival poster with six detailed images, showcasing the concept of the fairy tale and employing color theory to evoke intrigue. Despite facing challenges such as the constraints of the pandemic and the shift to remote work, the project was completed from home. The process included transforming my dining room into a makeshift studio and utilizing improvised lighting setups, as well as braving the cold to capture outdoor shots. Through determination and resourcefulness, the project achieved its goal of captivating the audience's curiosity.
